If you are worried about a serious driving offense that you have received a ticket for, it's time to talk with an attorney. At the very least, you can speak with an attorney and get a consultation on your case. If it is determined that you need further legal help to fight the ticket in court, you will probably want to hire the attorney to represent you during your case. While minor tickets don't usually warrant the need for an attorney, more serious offenses typically do. If you are charged with driving under the influence, or if this is a repeated offense, an attorney is your best chance at getting the least harsh consequence for your actions.

An Initial Consultation With an Attorney

You can go to an attorney for an initial consultation to discuss the details of your case. The attorney will be able to look at the merits of your case and give you a good idea of what strategies may work. You'll have to pay for this type of consultation, but it will be worth it to get solid legal advice. A consultation can help you make a more informed decision on how to proceed with your case.

If Your Charges Are More Serious

When your charges are more serious, you may want to hire an attorney to negotiate with the prosecution on your case. When you are facing potential jail time, high fees, or both, you will want an attorney who can negotiate on your behalf so that you don't get the maximum penalty for the charges that you face. If this is a second or third offense, you'll want an attorney because the consequences for second or third offenses are usually more severe.

When You Are Nervous About Court

Trying to represent yourself in court can be a daunting experience. If you don't think you can properly defend your actions, it's important to have an attorney with you who can present your defense effectively. Even if the ticket is your first DUI, an attorney should be with you to defend your case. If you run the risk of a license suspension, it is worth the cost of hiring an attorney to try and keep your license so you can continue to get to work.

If you aren't sure if you should hire an attorney for a traffic offense, you can start with an initial consultation. You can go over your case together and make a decision as to whether you need further representation to defend your case. Talk to attorneys like Sam Baxter Bardwell, P.A. for more information.

About Me
teenage mistakes that could ruin adult careers

My son has had the goal of becoming an attorney since he was about 14 years old. Unfortunately, he made a very poor decision with a group of friends when he was 16 that put his future plans in jeopardy. When my son told me what had happened and we received the citation, I knew that we had to hire an attorney to help him through this. I could not see how a small incident such as this should hurt his chances for success when he is an adult. Thankfully, things worked out for us, but it was a long journey which you can follow on our blog.
